Since January this year, the Cat Welfare Society (CWS) has received 80 reports of over 200 abandoned cats throughout Singapore. As part of its continuing efforts to secure warm, loving homes for the cats and to raise awareness of responsible cat ownership, CWS will partner self-storage provider Lock+Store to hold a cat adoption drive at its 6 Ayer Rajah Crescent facility from 1pm to 6pm, on 12 and 13 Oct 2013, respectively.

Ms Veron Lau, President of CWS said, “We are constantly on the look-out for creative platforms for our outreach activities. Thus far, we have held adoption drives in shopping malls and various community venues, with an average adoption rate of 10 cats at each venue. This is the first time we are organising our outreach in a self-storage setting. Hopefully, this will allow us to reach out to more diverse segments of the community.”

Ms Helen Ng, Chief Executive of Lock+Store said the outreach is an extension of the company’s ‘Colourful Self-Storage’ initiative launched in 2011 to “revamp the dull and drab image of the self-storage industry.” “In 2011, we collaborated with SPCA on the sale of postcards featuring abandoned animals posing on self-storage boxes. This year, we are happy to support Cat Welfare Society on their fundraising and education efforts.”

Event highlights

25 cats will be put up for adoption at the event. The CWS will screen potential owners for eligibility before placing them in their new homes. The public can also look forward to a flea market and car boot sale featuring cat-related paraphernalia. All proceeds will go towards CWS.
