Lock+Store on Channel U’s Money Week

Shoebox apartments continue to be very popular in Singapore.  According to yesterday’s Straits Times, “Buyers snapped up a record 2,037 new ones last year, according to analysis by consultancy R’ST Research.  The transactions include 138 shoebox units sold at Spottiswoode 18 near Outram MRT station, 99 at Skysuites@Anson, and 79 at The Interweave in Kim Keat Road.”

It seems the sizes of two-to-three bedroom apartments are shrinking down to almost shoebox sizes as well.  According to the Straits Times again,  ”A three-bedder at Natura at Hillview Terrace, a joint venture between Roxy-Pacific Holdings and Macly Group, measures just 635 sq ft.  That is smaller than a squash court and slightly bigger than five HDB carpark spaces.  Real estate consultants said a typical three-bedroom apartment occupies 1,000 to 1,500 sq ft of space.”

The smaller the apartment, the greater the need for self-storage facilities.  After all, householders would need a safe and accessible place to store their precious belongings.

The Budget and SMEs – Too Little or Too Much?

The recently announced Budget will bring the following benefit for SMEs:

- grants for hiring older Singaporeans instead of foreigners

- grants for investment in research and innovation (PIC)

- virtually cost-free training
